Project the first: Anti-renaissance Bodice

I dug up a pattern for renaissance-style bodices (McCalls 4107) a few weeks ago and thought "Ya know... that would make an excellent club/casino top!" The anti-rennie part comes in when you realize that I made it in red & black iridescent taffeta ;-)

The boning is rigiline. It both was and wasn't as tricky to work with as I'd anticipated. It gets sewn directly into the lining for this pattern, and my lining fabric turned out to be much lighter than I should have used. Also, next time (I have some fabulous black & silver brocade which guarantees a "next time") I'll secure the ends a bit better along the top & bottom seams.

I had to lengthen the pattern by 2" all around, and kicked the side lacing altogether on the grounds that it would be just too much going on.

A couple of pictures -- click on 'em to make them bigger.

I had help cutting out the lining.

Before putting in the grommets for lacing.

After!

A shot on the floor - with arguably better lighting.

I plan to lace it with 3/4" or 1" black ribbon - discreetly, but definitely knotted!

Oh, she nearly exploded with happiness when I was trying to cut the yards of cotton whatever-it-was that I used to make the muslin. The excess was all piled up on the floor and oh my gosh.

Trying to make a straight cut and then all of a sudden.. the *yank!* of little kitten claws!

When the picture popped up I was like, as I was reading (mild ADD) to the point where you said anti-rennie. My brain jumped to the conclusion that you tied the bodice with a cat...of course, hilarity ensued in my head.

*giggle* I'm trying to envision a situation in which that would not result in multiple lacerations... ;D

Thanks! Out of curiosity, did you use fusible interfacing on the inside of it? I did, and I think it may have made it -too- stiff...
